For the past few days, most Selangorians have been suffering from extreme water cuts all due to one factory, Yip Chee Seng & Sons Sdn. Bhd, a heavy-duty vehicle factory workshop located in Kg Sungai Dua, Rawang. The pollutant was said to be diesel.
Bernama reported that the factory will be demolished and the owners are asked to restore the land. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the directive was contained in the Notice of Conduct Violation (7A) which will be issued by the Gombak District and Land Office to the factory operators involved today.
The area is instructed to close down for three to four months at least to make sure the area is safe. The minister also clarified that the factory got a closing notice in March this year but they disobeyed it and started operations in June.
To ensure that such incidents do not recur, Amirudin said the state government would amend the Selangor Water Management Board Enactment 1999 to increase the maximum fine from RM500,000 to RM1 million against any individual or premises that is proven to cause water pollution in Selangor.
The minister added that the water supply is expected to return in full capacity by 6am this Wednesday.
He advised Selangorians who’ve received their water supply to not rush and save water as this would disrupt the water supply restoration process.
Selangorians everywhere would probably sigh in relief knowing they can finally shower again. However, it’s still disheartening that stricter actions weren’t taken towards the factory owners earlier which could’ve avoided this whole debacle.
