It’s a bitter sweet thing but maybe durian fans should rejoice? Something heinous like Wuhan Coronavirus has single-handedly brought down Malaysia’s favourite king of fruit.
As reported by Malay Mail, the price of Malaysian durian has fallen in the past two weeks as there’s only a small demand from China due to the recent coronavirus outbreak.
Apart from that, the outbreak has also disrupted China’s logistic industry which directly impacted the local durian scene. A farmer in Segamat, Andy Tan shared that the prices of his durians have gone down by almost 50%. He elaborated,
“The logistic industry to transport durian have less manpower, and there are major delays to get the products through customs.”
Because of this, Andy, just like the other local durian farmers, are looking to sell his durian supplies locally or to Singapore. Other than logistical problems, Chinese companies are also not importing anymore durians because the reduced demands in China itself.
Well then, looks like we Malaysians can bank on this opportunity to buy our beloved king of fruits for much cheaper!
