Over Half Of Delhi’s Population Has Developed Covid-19 Antibodies, Possibly Achieving Herd Immunity
After a difficult year or so of taking on the Covid-19 virus, India’s number of daily cases is slowly dropping.
But, it’s what they’ve discovered recently that has got netizens talking.
As according to India Today, 56.13 per cent of Delhi’s population has developed antibodies against the virus, shared their Health Minister, Satyendar Jain.
In the biggest coronavirus survey the country has conducted, with 28,000 samples taken, South Delhi reported the highest number of citizens developing Covid-19 antibodies, at 62.18 per cent.
“A new, better technology was used during this survey. Samples were collected from every ward. In all, 28,000 samples were taken,” a senior officer shared.
Jain said that Delhi was moving towards herd immunity, “but only experts will be able to give a clear picture”.
Delhi’s population stands at over 20 million people and preliminary results from the survey shows that over 10 million Delhi citizens (half its population) were infected at one point and developed antibodies.
This leads to the possibility that Delhi could be one of the first few cities in the world who could be on the road towards herd immunity.
With the number of cases, fatalities and hospital admissions declining significantly, Jain still insists that people continue to wear masks and maintain “Covid-19 appropriate behaviour” for good measure.
