S’pore’s Special Cruise To Nowhere Returns Back After Passenger Tests Positive For Covid-19
World Dream Liner in Singapore launched its very first ‘cruise to nowhere’ with even safety features in place to prevent Covid-19 infections. The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Quantum of the Seas was supposed to sail from Singapore, travel into the Malacca Strait and head into international waters before returning to the country.
However, despite their precautions, the ship reported its first Covid-19 case on board and is set to return back to Singapore on Wednesday (9 December).
Straits Times reported that the ship had isolated all guests and crew who had close contact with the guest. They all tested negative for Covid-19. The ship’s captain reassured the passengers when they arrived in Singapore that they are safe on board and the ship has a plan to maintain their health, safety and comfort.
He informed the guests around 2.45am today (9 December) that the ship will be returning early and the guests should remain in their cabins.
Director of cruise at the Singapore Tourism Board, Mrs Annie Chang, said that emergency response has been activated according to guidelines. The passengers will be provided with medical support if necessary when they disembark. “All passengers undergo a mandatory Covid-19 test prior to boarding, with stringent hygiene and safety measures implemented throughout their passenger journey,” she said.
Due to the pandemic, The Quantum of the Seas served an approximate of 2,000 passengers instead of its usual 4,000 over passengers.
