As we’re told to get used the new normal, where physical socialising is frowned upon, others are choosing to embrace it beyond the factor of the coronavirus.

For example, social media giant, Twitter, has implemented a permanent work from home policy in which Twitter employees will no longer need to go to the office even after the Covid-19 virus is completely eradicated.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey had apparently confirmed the new policy in a company-wide email blast, as according to The Guardian. He had apparently announced the company’s intent to work in a ‘distributed’ way before the virus hit, but was ultimately forced to move the timeline up because of the pandemic.

The social media platform was one of the first companies to implement the ‘work from home’ strategy in the face of Covid-19 and has expressed their intent to ensure that employees who’s roles enable them to work remotely can continue to do so, forever.

“We’re proud of the early action we took to protect the health of our employees and our communities. That will remain our top priority as we work through the unknowns of the coming months,” a Twitter representative mentioned in their blog post.

Dorsey also added that only employees in which have no replacement for their physical presence, such as those maintaining their servers, are required to to be present at their offices.

The Covid-19 pandemic has proven that not all employees are truly needed in the office to get their work done and as we continue to embrace the new normal, we hope to see more companies embrace the ‘work from home’ culture as it also enables employees to cut down on costs of transport and allows them to also spend more time with their family members and loved ones.
