A 1.5 metre crocodile had been captured in Taman Tasik Shah Alam, Section 7, just days after it was initially discovered by the public.

A video of the crocodile surfacing on the lake went viral recently and fortunately, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) acknowledged and took immediate action. Yesterday evening (September 4), traps were set with chickens, hoping the reptile would take the bait.

The lake was closed to the public since 8 PM last night  (September 5) to allow the authorities, including the Selangor Wildlife Department to do their jobs, and to ensure the safety of the public.

At around 10:30 PM last night, the authorities managed to capture the crocodile after it slid right into the trap.

The matter was confirmed by Selangor Exco Najwan Halimi in a Facebook post, along with Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, who was also present at the scene.

According to the Facebook post of Azli Yusof, the member of parliament for Shah Alam, this was also the fastest record of the wildlife department in capturing a crocodile, less than 24 hours after the traps were set. The reptile was then sent to the Paya Indah Wetlands – a wildlife sanctuary.

“The lake will be closed for another 2 days for inspections. The public is urged to co-operate before the place is opened again,” Azli said.

Safety measures to avoid another crocodile

With the lake accessible to everyone, including children, MBSA has implemented a safety measure to avoid any unwanted accidents by installing safety nets at the entrances of drains.

Additionally, the Selangor Wildlife Department also confirmed that the captured reptile was a saltwater crocodile.

In case you encounter any reptiles out there, including snakes, do contact the authorities and don’t make any attempt to scare them away.
