A 10-month-old baby girl has died of internal bleeding yesterday (15 August), likely due to abuse. According to reports by Bernama, this was four days after Serdang district police found her unconscious at her babysitter’s house in Bandar Puchong Jaya.

Serdang district police chief, ACP Ismadi Borhan confirmed that the victim was rushed to the hospital after the victim’s parents called the police. The parents were contacted by the 40-year-old babysitter who told them that their child was unconscious.
Initial examination by doctors at the hospital found that the baby have internal bleeding in the head. This led the police to believe that there may have been elements of foul play and abuse regarding the incident.
Post-mortem of the victim shows that the bleeding is likely caused by a fall from a high place.

ACP Ismadi commented,
“Further checks revealed that the victim was confirmed brain dead and had to rely on a ventilator before she was pronounced dead at 3.19 pm yesterday,”
Investigations by the police have found that prior to the incident, the victim had fallen twice, once in her own home and another time at the babysitter’s house. However, police found no elements of abuse in these two previous instances.
The police are now investigating the case under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 which if found guilty, the perpetrator would be liable to a fine up to RM20,000 or prison up to 10 years or both.
