“All suspects are being investigated for asking and receiving corruption money from two contractor companies. In return, they would award them with the ship repair project and speed up the payment claim process,” said a statement on MACC’s Facebook page. “The suspects asked the contractor companies to pay the sum gradually, instead of all at once,” continued the statement.

The ship repair project took place between the four year period of 2015 to 2019. Following reports from the source, all suspects (aged between 37 to 56-years-old) were arrested in the MACC Johor Bahru office yesterday (18 August).

It is believed that the individuals involved in the bribery include the former head of the company, seven former senior officers and three other individuals who are still working at the shipping engineering company.
