11 Things Malaysians Cannot Live Without - World Of Buzz

Every country has its clichés or uniqueness that help distinguish them from the rest. Like how people from Canada are supposedly the nicest in the world. Or that Japan produces the highest number of (we know what you were thinking) technological wonders that the world has ever seen.

Malaysia isn’t so far off from having our distinctive traits, habits or quirks too. Here are several things that screams Malaysian that we can’t live without!

1. Our daily or weekly nasi lemak intake

First and foremost, y’all know it’s true that we wouldn’t be able to live without the most Malaysian meal ever, Nasi Lemak. I mean, how could you resist something that yummy-licious?

2. Myvi

You’ll find a Myvi without fail while travelling on the roads of Malaysia. For whatever reason, our streets are always filled with tons of them. In fact, ask any Malaysian and they’ll tell you that know of AT LEAST ONE person who owns a Myvi.

If you are ever tired of your Myvi, you could always opt to upgrade for a new car by going through Carlist which lists a catalogue of over 160,000 cars (both brand-new and used).

3. Saying ‘lah’

It’s almost impossible to get a true Malaysian to stop saying the word ‘lah’. It’s in our blood! Plus the word is so beautiful and only comes naturally to those who know how to use it. It’s an art really. Especially when there’s absolute no way of defining it in words.

4. Chili!

Part of what makes Malaysians Malaysian is our chili. We have belacan, sambal, chili padi, chili paste, and chili sauce to name a few! Seriously, where else in the world do you find chili so easily accessible in all these forms. Even Taiwan doesn’t have cili sos in their McD’s man!

Even for the Malaysians who can’t handle the heat, they still love it for that extra kick in their meal.

5. Leaving ‘bojio’ comments

Xx Things Malaysians Cannot Live Without - World Of Buzz 7

‘Bojio’ or ‘tak ajak’ is now a household word that is widely used as a response to friends that went out or did activities without extending an invite to them. It has become a staple for Malaysians to jeer at our friends for having a good time, but all in good humour, right?

Although we would never understand people who leave these comments but when you do actually ask them out, they don’t layan us also?

6. Leaving ‘up’ comments

Then there’s the recent ‘up’ comments. I swear, no one else is as mou liu (lame) as Malaysians. See a post about your buddy who just befriended a cute chick? Leave an ‘up’!

The whole ‘fun’ about leaving ‘up’ comments is to get their post to appear more prominently on Facebook as a way to tease them. Hence, the world will eventually know your friend had made friends with a cutie (or not).

7. MAMAK!

Like moths to a flame, mamak outlets seem to be packed with people. Be it day or night, rain or shine, it’s always in business, and we can’t seem to find for a better place to chill and lepak. I mean, why wouldn’t we want to be in a place that has affordable dining that is available (almost) 24/7? Aneh, limau ais satu~

8. Malaysian timing

Somehow Malaysians have their timing automatically set to half an hour or one hour later. When you ask your friends out, time it right so you won’t be the first one to arrive and wait aimlessly wondering when your friends will show up.

9. Smart phone, social media & Internet

Malaysians are always scared that our friends don’t know how ‘great’ our lives are so we’d often broadcast it to the world.

Especially when it comes to food, always give it a 5-minute buffer time for everyone to finish ‘snapping’ away at the dish before we are ready to settle down and dig in.

Sharing is caring ma, right?

10. Asking for discounts or free stuff

As ‘smart shoppers’, Malaysians will die die want to get the best value in anything they buy.

We’d often ask, “eh, got discount/freebies anot?” because deep in our hearts, we are convinced that they are able to give us ‘best price’.

11. A car!

It’s true that Malaysians will not be able to survive without a vehicle. Dah lah our public transportation needs some work.

Yes, the government expanded the railroad network but we aren’t quite there yet because there are still a whole lot of places we still can’t get to by public transportation!
