Malaysians and Singaporeans have always had a long-term frenemy relationship. We are totally best friends with all the similarities we share, but we can also get pretty competitive (or kiasu) to see who is better at certain things.
So, here’s a list of things that the two nations always argue about. Let’s see who can out-win the other.

1. Friendliness and sense of humour

Skim through social media and you’ll often find many people citing Malaysians to be extremely friendly and helpful whereas Singaporeans can be quite cold towards strangers.
Also, due to Singaporeans’ extreme kiasu and kiasi-ness… there isn’t much space for quality comedy. 😛

2. Driving and parking skills
Malaysian drivers are friggin’ legends when it comes to double and triple parking, and weaving through traffic #likeaboss.

3. Public transportation
Timeliness, cleanliness, general safety and quality of the vehicle can never be found in Malaysian public transportation.
Even though Kuala Lumpur has got the brand new MRT now, it only took 5 days for Malaysians to vandalise the stations. Sigh…

4. Cost of cars, parking, toll and petrol
Although Malaysian public transportation sucks, the cost of owning and driving a car here is way more affordable compared to that in Singapore. You know it’s true!

Citizens of the little country need to fork out a large sum of money just to get the Certificate of Entitlement. Then, there’s also the pricey road tax, parking, toll and petrol there.
Oh, not to forget, each Singaporean family has got a quota of cars that they’re permitted to own too. How ridiculous is that?!

5. Safety and cleanliness
The laws in Singapore are truly strict even for minor offences such as littering and picking flowers in public places. So, major crimes such as robbery and theft isn’t very common. After all, you can’t really hide on that tiny island.

7. Cost of living
The hawker food in Singapore is pretty darn cheap compared to the ones in Malaysia (don’t convert, lah).
However, the massive downside to living in Singapore away from family would mean paying a butt load of money just for rent.
A simple small bedroom excluding Internet and air-cond will set you back at SGD500 to SGD800 (RM1,550 to RM2,480) or more a month, depending on the area you choose to stay in.
Hence, most youths live with their parents until they’re married before the time comes to purchase their own HDB flats, which is truly expensive!

8. Road conditions

9. Manglish vs Singlish
Manglish mixes more of Malay with English while Singlish is a good mix of Hokkien or Mandarin with English. Although both languages do have similar words used, somehow Singaporeans are able to mess up the spelling.
Words such as ‘kena‘, ‘kacau‘ and ‘sekali‘ somehow turned into ‘ganna‘, ‘kenna‘, ‘gachiao‘ and ‘scarly‘.
Walao eh, Malay is your national language yet most of you don’t even know it. Mempersiasuikan sendiri leh, Singaporeans. Triggered Singaporeans incoming.

Also, Manglish is way more colourful as we tend to mix Malay, Tamil and Chinese dialects with English.

10. Quality of education
Malaysians constantly go overseas to study, especially at the tertiary level. One of the countries that Malaysians often go to is none other than Singapore (unless you can afford other ang moh countries).

Singaporeans on the other hand, would go over to countries such as Australia and the UK. Fun fact: the National University of Singapore (NUS) is also the number one university in Asia!

11. FOOD!
The biggest thing that every Malaysian and Singaporean always argue about is definitely food.
Although many Singaporeans would feverishly defend their food, Penang is more than enough to represent all the best dishes from Malaysia.
There’s no need to bring in other states and their best dishes because Penang’s food can flat out beat Singapore already.
Do you see Malaysians making food trips to Singapore? Yeah, thought so. Plus, how often do you see Singaporeans making food trips to Malacca and Penang alone? Okay, I think you got my point. #SorryNotSorry
