The Malay Dignity Congress was held at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam this morning (6 October). It was organised by four public universities: Universiti Malaya, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Putra Malaysia, and Universiti Teknologi Mara.
The purpose was to discuss issues affected by the Malay community in Malaysia.

Unfortunately, a large-scale food poisoning case was reported affecting a total of 118 participants after they consumed food that was catered by the event organiser. A report was made at 11:15 am that some of the victims experienced vomiting and diarrhoea at the venue.

The victims were seen laying on the ground, and various support and help was given to them after being struck by this unexpected disaster
The Selangor Health director, Datuk Dr Khalid Ibrahim received calls from Malawati Stadium at about 11:15 am, and immediate actions were taken. The Malaysian Emergency Coordination Centre (MECC) dispatched doctors and nurses in five ambulances to the location.
After carrying out examinations, 27 of the food poisoning victims were classified as semi-critical (yellow tag), and 91 of them were fortunately in a stable condition (green tag). Fortunately, no victim was classified as red tags, as reported on Sin Chew Daily.
According to Malay Mail, the patients were then sent to the Emergency Department at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, as well as Shah Alam Hospital for further treatment. So far, the reason for this food poisoning case is yet to be announced.
Oh no! We hope the victims can recover as soon as possible. Organisers for such events should not take food hygiene lightly as well, and this should serve as a reminder for everyone to ensure the safety of food served on any occasion.
