Short people surely have the short end of the stick in life. Aside from always being looked down upon (pun very intended), there are also so many other struggles that come with our not-so-blessed height. Here are just some of the short people problems that we have to face daily:
1. Your neck is constantly aching from looking up at tall people

Being the shortest in your group, no one is ever on eye-level with you. So you’re always forced to crane your neck upwards or else you’d be speaking to people’s chest all the time.
2. Blaming your entire Asian lineage when you’re at a concert and this is your view:

Nothing is sadder than waiting YEARS for your favourite artiste to come to Malaysia on tour (we all know how much they love to skip us) and when you finally get to see them in person, you… CAN’T. Instead, you’ve spent hundreds of ringgit just to stare at the back of the head of some giant in front of you. Great!
3. Always getting left behind when walking in a group
Trips to the mall can sometimes turn into a 500-meter sprint whenever you’re walking with the long-legged creatures you call your friends. With the speed you’re going at, you might as well join those power-walking aunties at the park.
4. You’re usually drowned in the crowd especially on the LRT or KTM
Riding on public transports can be a real nightmare. Not only is it a struggle for you to have anywhere to hold on to, but taking the train, especially during peak hours, can give you a newfound sense of appreciation towards deodorants.

5. You usually disappear in a group picture
You can probably guess that crowds aren’t really a short person’s best friend. Trying to stand out in a group picture is pretty much an extreme sport for us; the panic run just to chop a good spot and if we don’t get one, we have to tip-toe just to get our forehead in the picture.

6. You can never find a pair of pants that fit properly
You’ve already accepted the fact that you will always have to alter every single pair of pants or skirts that you buy because none of them can fit you properly. You know what’s even worse? When you shop at the petite section and the clothes STILL don’t fit right!

7. You gave up your dream of being a model or flight attendant
Can you imagine being deprived of a childhood dream just because of something you have no control over? I mean, did we ask to be born this way? Come on, we’re people too!
8. Pretty much every corner of a pool is considered the deep-end for you
I don’t know about you guys but for me, the shallow end of a pool is pretty much non-existent. While tall people are lounging around the pool sipping on their drinks, most of us smaller people are busy trying to find a spot to step on before we risk drowning ourselves.

9. Climbing onto tall bar stools is as good as climbing up Mount Kinabalu for short people
Those tall bar stools can be fun to sit on but it is also a pain for us to climb. If you see us awkwardly trying to climb one without falling or flashing people, kindly mind your own business, please.

10. Driving really close to the steering wheel

Whenever a friend opens the door to the passenger’s seat and sees us, it’s almost customary for each one of them to yell “Wey, why you drive so near to the steering wheel???” Okay, so it’s my fault for wanting to be able to see the road while I’m driving, is it?
11. Getting mistaken for a Sekolah Menengah student
Padahal, you graduated from uni already…
Okay, this one may not really be a struggle lah, more of a blessing in disguise at times. Though occasionally it does get a bit annoying having to clarify that you are, in fact, of legal age. But you’ve got to admit, getting mistaken as being younger can never fail to make you feel good.

12. Always getting “cute” or “comel” as a compliment
Now this one might also not sound like a struggle and we risk sounding like an ungrateful brat whenever we say this. But when you’re a full-grown adult trying your best to look “sexy” or “hot”, the “cute” compliment can surely kill your confidence instantly.
If you’re reading this and feeling bad about being vertically challenged, don’t be! Some of these struggles may be a bit annoying at times, but our petite size sure does give us one huge advantage: We don’t age as fast as other people.
So repeat after me: There’s nothing wrong with being cute!
