A whopping 120 home buyers expressed their disappointment after their dream of owning a house did not come true as the construction of housing project they had purchased from was left abandoned.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the Projek Perumahan Gong Chempedak Fasa 3 (Gong Chempedak Phase 3 Housing Project) in Marang, Terengganu, was supposed to have been completed in 2020. But, it was abandoned after 2 years (in 2018) of the project’s implementation in 2016.

On top of this, the developer’s failure to complete the project has caused the buyers to bear the burden of making monthly payments of between RM400 to RM800 since 2018.

Among the buyers, 34-year-old Abdul Halim Mohamed shared that he is asking the state government to help solve this issue as it has been going on for far too long now.

“Because there is no place to live, my family has to stay at my mother’s house. Until when do I want to stay at my mother’s house? For the comfort of the family, I bought my own house in 2016 but until now the house is still not ready. How long do we have to wait when the payment is made every month?”

“I hope that the developer understands the feelings of the buyers who are disappointed, sad and burdened with financial problems to a point where some have to stay at their family homes or rent houses temporarily,” he said.

Another buyer, 38-year-old Mohamad Hafiz Salleh informed that he doesn’t even know why the developer had stopped the construction of the houses in 2018.

“We have complained to the state government many times because the project was built on state government land.”

“However, we were very disappointed when the state government could not help because it claimed it was a private project and not a state government project. I went from having no children to having 2 children aged 4 and 2-years-old, but I still haven’t gotten my house,” he explained.

Based on their agreement with the developer, the process of handing over the house keys were supposed to have been done in 2020, but the status of the project is still unknown.

It has since been revealed that the developer is facing financial problems, which caused the project to be stopped.

“The developers frankly told that they are facing financial problems and are trying to find project partners to cover the finances to continue the project. The developer also claimed to have failed to get a bank loan due to a lot of debt.”

“That’s why the developer needs a new project partner to help financially,” shared Terengganu State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Exco, Dr Alias Razak.
