As adults, some of us like our alcohol and sometimes, we even chill out with a cold glass of our favourite drink after a long day at work. However, these drinks are only meant for adults and not for minors so please, don’t simply offer an alcoholic beverage to underage children!
This father surnamed Wang in Wuhan gave some alcohol to his 13-year-old son because he wanted to “train” the boy’s alcohol tolerance but this led to detrimental consequences, Apple Daily reports. He poured a small glass of Baijiu (a type of alcohol popular in China) for his son on Feb 12 and asked the teen to drink it.
The glass contained about 75g of alcohol and the son drank it all in record time. Not long after that, the son fell asleep and at first, no one felt that anything was amiss. However, his parents started to feel uneasy when they discovered that their son’s body felt really hot.
They tried to wake him up but he was unresponsive to their efforts and they started to panic. The boy was still unconscious when Wang sent him to the hospital for emergency treatment. The attending physician, Liu, said that he could smell the alcohol fumes coming from the boy even before he went near him.
When Liu inspected the boy, he saw that his face was very flushed and he was in a coma-like state. The doctor suspected that the boy was suffering from alcohol poisoning and quickly administered treatment. Luckily, the teen was revived at around 2am when he started to wake up from his coma.
In case you didn’t know, Poison Control states that alcohol can be poisonous to kids as it has a dangerous effect on children. They explained it by saying, “Alcohol depresses the central nervous system and causes low blood glucose (sugar). Children who drink alcohol can have seizures and coma; they could even die.” That’s really bad!
While it may be okay for adults to consume moderate amounts of alcohol, it is not safe for children and can even be fatal. So please, don’t simply give your underage children alcohol okay!
