“14 pistols, 1 submachine gun & 900 bullets” – 2 Taiwanese Men Charged by KL Court for Alleged Firearms Trafficking

Two Taiwan nationals pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday (10 February) to three charges involving the trafficking and possession of several firearms and ammunition last month.

The two accused, 26-year-old Cheng Ming Hung and 33-year-old Hsueh Chun Ta, pleaded not guilty after the court interpreter read the charges against them in Mandarin in front of Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin.

According to Sinar Harian, the first charge was under Section 7(2) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, for alleged trafficking of 14 pistols and a submachine gun without a valid permit at a house in Desa ParCity, Sentul, at 5.30pm on 16 January.

If convicted, they face imprisonment between 30 and 40 years and 6 strokes of the cane.

For the second charge, the duo was accused of possessing an imitation ‘five-seven MK2P’ gun and 2 empty magazines without a valid reason at the same time, date and location.

The charge was framed under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, read together with Section 34 of the same Act. If convicted, they face up to 1 year in jail, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.

Meanwhile, the third charge was under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1971, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, for alleged possession of 14 pistols, a submachine gun and 900 rounds of ammunition without a valid permit at the same time, date and location.

The charge carries imprisonment of up to 14 years and 6 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

All of the offences are not bailable, and the case mention was set for 12 March.
