As we start to return to our normal lives, it is probably worth remembering that things will not be quite the same as they were before for everyone. In fact, with Covid-19 still liable to spread within our communities, we have been instructed to practice ‘new norms’, or habits that are meant to keep the highly virulent Covid-19 infection at bay.
Among them include, most crucially, avoiding large gatherings, practicing good hygiene and of course, maintaining a good social distance between one another. But for one family in Bahrain, it seems that overlooking these incredibly important measures to stop the spread of Covid-19 have come at a very high price.
In news that was recently shared by our very own Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah via Gulf News, over 16 people from the same family in Bahrain tested positive for Covid-19, and all because they decided to join a buka puasa gathering together.
According to the news outlet, the Bahrain Ministry of Health broke cover of the news last Saturday (9th May 2020), revealing that the family members had gathered together to buka puasa, but failed to practice the mandatory calls to avoid large social gatherings, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing.
As a result, as many as 16 members of the family came down with Covid-19, after one infected individual who attended the buka puasa gathering spread the virus to parents, siblings, as well as children who were present.
Given the fact that Covid-19 continues to be an extremely contagious disease, we as Malaysians should continue to remain vigilant at all times to prevent such instances from occurring!
