163 SPM Candidates in Kedah Evacuated Mid-Exam in PDRM Trucks Due to Rising Flood Waters

Apart from Southern Thailand, certain states in Malaysia are also hit with floods, including Kedah, which, at the time of writing (25 November), has recorded over 2,100 victims.

Those who were sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) were also affected by the disaster. Just this morning, 163 students from SMK Jitra in Kedah had to be evacuated midway through the examination after the water level in the school rose.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) deployed trucks to the scene to transfer the students to another school, where they could continue the exam.

Furthermore, teachers also used their cars to send some students to another school for the exam.

The Kedah State Education Department confirmed today that a sudden flood occurred at SMK Jitra at 10:20 AM this morning. The the area in front of the examination hall and parts of the school, where students were taking the exam at the time.

All of the SPM candidates were moved safely

At the time of the incident, the candidates were sitting for their Bahasa Melayu Paper 2 examination, and the transfer of students was completed with the assistance of police trucks, teacher vehicles, and parents. No safety issues occurred throughout the process, reported China Press.

Meanwhile, the Kedah State Education Department is ensuring that all logistics, examination safety, and procedures are carried out according to established standards. They also thanked the schools, district education offices (PPDs), security forces, and all those who assisted in ensuring the SPM examinations could proceed smoothly without disruption and in protecting the rights of the candidates.
