Nature Outing Turns Tragic as 17yo Student Falls to His Death at Perak Waterfall, Bomba Hike 1km to Reach Him

A Form Five student lost his life on Saturday (20 September) after falling at the Buntong Waterfall area in Menglembu, Perak. The victim, identified as 17-year-old Bayu Zaril Iman Zaharilizam, is believed to be a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jati.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, Acting Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Perak, Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, shared that an emergency call regarding this incident was received at about 11:26 AM from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

A 17-year-old student fell to his death at Buntong waterfall

A team of 8 personnel from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) then rushed to the location, which was 11km away.

“Upon arrival at the foot of the hill, the personnel had to walk about 1km to reach the victim’s location. It was found that a 17-year-old Malay male victim had suffered serious injuries and was given initial treatment by MOH,” he said.

The victim was later pronounced dead by MOH personnel at the scene.

 

JBPM personnel carried the victim’s body down the hill

The head of operations conducted an assessment and ordered the personnel to carry the victim down to the foot of the hill using a stretcher, before handing him over to the police for further action. The operation ended at 2.20 PM.
