One of the victims who died in an accident involving a group of 15 motorcyclists near Kilometre 262 of the North-South Expressway was only 19 years old.
The victim’s grandmother, Rohani Hussein, 66, said that Afkar Fitri Affendi was a good grandson during his lifetime.
“He always obeyed his parents and listened to them. I’m deeply saddened by his death. I used to speak to him at least two to three times a week,” she said.
“Whatever he was told, he did it. He never objected to anything. But what can I do? I’m trying to accept it and stay calm,” she added, when met at the Forensic Medicine Unit compound at Rembau Hospital.
Rohani shared that she last spoke to Afkar two days before his passing. When she asked what he was doing, he told her he was cleaning his helmet and motorcycle. She took the opportunity to remind him to be careful while riding.
She had no idea that would be the last piece of advice she would ever give him.
“I told him to be careful. That motorcycle was only meant for commuting to college and going out for meals.”
Rohani also said she had a close relationship with Afkar. Every time they met, he would cling to her and hold her hand while walking, afraid she might fall.
Afkar’s grandfather, Syed Salleh Syed Abu Bakar, 71, said he received the tragic news after returning home from dawn prayers.
“My grandson lived in Puchong, but since he was studying in Bangi, his father bought him a motorcycle to commute from his rented house to college.”
“I’m very sad. He was my second grandson and was very close to both me and my wife,” he added.
Syed added that no matter how tired Afkar was, he never refused to help the elderly.
Despite their grief and heartbreak, both Rohani and Syed have come to terms with their grandson’s passing, according to reports by Kosmo! and Buletin TV3.
