Suspects used a machete during the gang robbery

The suspects, who were said to have used a machete during the gang robbery, were charged with committing the crime in front of a shop in Bagan Ajam, Penang, at 7:35 PM.

During the hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Nadia Jamal didn’t offer bail since the offence wasn’t bailable.

But Muhammad Zaim, a metalworker, asked for bail, saying he needs to support his wife and both parents, who are undergoing dialysis treatment. Mah Cheow Chuen also appealed for bail, explaining he has to take care of his wife, five kids, and his mom.

The charge falls under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which could mean up to 20 years in prison and whipping if they’re found guilty.

A bail of RM8k was granted

The judge granted bail of RM8,000 each with one guarantor and set January 15 as the date for case mention and document submission.

Separately, Muhammad Zaim and Mah Cheow Chuen were also charged in the Magistrates’ Court with possession of stolen goods under Section 411 of the Penal Code on December 17.

Both pleaded guilty to the charges read separately. The court subsequently imposed a fine of RM3,000 each on the accused, with a default sentence of five months imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
