Just when we were starting to feel relieved that the infection curve is flattening, a new cluster has just been detected. Similar to previous clusters, this cluster also originated from one person who was selfish enough to not get tested.
Around 70 students from a tahfiz school in Jasin, Melaka have been quarantined after 20 of them tested positive for Covid-19. Jasin OCPD Deputy Superintendent Mispani Hamdan told The Star that the students have been shifted to a quarantine centre in Alor Gajah after one teacher and 20 students were tested positive for the virus.
The infection originated from close contact with the teacher who attended the Sri Petaling tabligh. The students, aged 13 to 21, will undergo a 14-day quarantine at the centre. Jasin has now been classified as a Covid-19 red zone area.
This is the third known cluster so far with the second cluster originating from the patient in Sabah who returned from Italy and didn’t follow quarantine protocols. As of 23 March, the Sri Petaling tabligh cluster comprised 62% of positive cases, but just as we thought the cases from this cluster were reducing, a third cluster has now been formed.
We hope the infected students have a speedy recovery. To the rest of us, please GET YOURSELF TESTED if you’ve had any close contact with a positive patient or if you’ve had any travel history in the nearest time.
