A nursing student in Thailand stopped by the roadside to help victims of a car crash involving four vehicles and tragically lost her life in the process.

She was struck by a speeding car whose driver failed to notice her as she was directing traffic away from the crash site.

The young nursing student, Jirawadee Tonthongdaeng, was only 22

Tonthongdaeng and her husband, Wanchaloem Anchunee, were on their way to celebrate her birthday when they came across a chain collision and decided to stop and assist the victims. Local rescuers and police were alerted to the accident involving five vehicles on the Bangkok–Ban Chang Motorway heading toward Pattaya at around 2:30 AM on 29 October.

Most of the vehicles involved were severely damaged, with one reportedly smashed into pieces.

Five people were rushed to the hospital, and three were pronounced dead at the scene. The fatalities included a Thai driver, a South Korean tourist who had been in the same vehicle, and Tonthongdaeng herself, who was helping the crash victims.

The collision involved five vehicles: an 18-wheel Hino truck, a Toyota Fortuner SUV, a Toyota Camry sedan, a GAC Aion Y Plus electric SUV, and an MG sedan.

According to witnesses, the Toyota Fortuner lost control and crashed into the rear of the 18-wheel truck. Moments later, the Toyota Camry collided with the side of the Fortuner before slamming into a barrier, leaving one person seriously injured, who later died.

One of the rescuers, Wanchaloem Anchunee, who is also Tonthongdaeng’s husband, was injured by the MG car. He remains in critical condition at Chon Buri Hospital, awaiting surgery. Due to a shortage of blood supplies, the hospital issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, The Thaiger reported.

Tonthongdaeng’s body was transferred to her home province of Si Saket, in the Isaan region, for funeral rites, according to a post by the Bangkok Community Help Foundation.
