A 23-year-old local man was arrested after the Audi A6 he was driving had crashed into 2 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) motorcycles at Kilometre 8 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Air Hitam in Johor Bahru, Johor, on early Sunday morning (September 7).
According to a statement by the Johor Bahru Utara District Police, Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh shared that the incident, which took place at 4 AM, involved the Audi A6 losing control and crashing into 2 Kawasaki EX250 motorcycles belonging to the URB, parked near the incident location.
“2 police officers, aged 29 and 36, were carrying out traffic control at the accident site. One of them was injured in the left leg and is being treated at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru, while the other officer and the driver of the car were not injured,” he said.
The driver was under the influence of alcohol
Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh went on to explain that the result of an alcohol breath test on the driver was found to be positive, while the initial urine test was negative for drugs.
“This case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of intoxicating drinks or drugs.”
If convicted, the offender can be jailed between 10 and 15 years, and fined between RM50,000 and RM100,000 in addition to having his driving licence suspended for 10 years.
