Pokemon cards are worth more than you think. Certain cards worth a lot because of their rarity, condition, and demand, making them excellent investment opportunities or collectibles.
According to a recent report by The Straits Times, a 23-year-old Malaysian nurse living in Singapore has been placed on probation for a year after stealing 2 boxes of Pokemon cards valued at SGD480 (RM1,459).

He sold them to repay debts owed to friends
Fong Jia Wei resorted to stealing after being influenced by TikTok videos that showed the profitable Pokemon card trade. As a result to that, he pleaded guilty to 2 theft charges and was sentenced to 1 year of probation on May 14.
As part of his punishment, he would have to stay indoors from 11 pm to 6 am every day and do 40 hours of community service.
It was said that Fong’s parents were also required to post a bond of SGD5,000 (RM15,000) to guarantee his good behaviour.

Outstanding college fees totaling RM21,140
Fong completed his polytechnic studies in April 2021, but his diploma was withheld due to outstanding fees totaling around SGD7,000 (RM21,140).
“He managed to clear his fees and got his diploma in April 2022, using his savings and from the money he loaned from his friends,” stated in court by Defence lawyers Josephus Tan and Cory Wong.
He turned to stealing to pay back his friends, hoping to use the money he got from selling Pokémon cards. He was caught with multiple packs of Pokemon cards he obtained through fraud and the cards he sold were never recovered.
