A married 30-year-old man recently told his wife that he would be out fishing at night, but little did the woman know, her husband had other plans in mind.
Instead of spending time by the river, the man checked in at a hotel with a 50-year-old single mother, and was caught by the Johor Religious Department (JAINJ) for Khalwat.
The pair was caught during a raid by JAINJ at a motel in Muar, Johor, at around 1 AM today (August 7), and according to a post by JAINJ, the single mother has 3 children.
“Khalwat” is an Arabic term that translates to being alone with a non-mahram (an unrelated person of the opposite sex) in a secluded place.
“Many men in Muar spend their nights fishing for prawns near the Muar bridge or the mosque. But tonight, this man had a change in taste, and decided to ‘fish’ in a hotel room,” JAINJ remarked in the post.
According to the post, the man initially wanted to rent a motel room at a cheaper rate, but feared getting caught by the officers from the religious department, as motels are often hotspots for Khalwat raids. To avoid being caught, the man spent a little more, about RM240, for a one-night stay at the said hotel.
“The amount spent on the hotel room was not an issue for the man because he makes around RM4,000 a month, and he had just received his monthly salary,” JAINJ said in the post.
According to the JAINJ, the pair was detained for Khalwat, and they will be investigated under Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997. If convicted, both face a fine of not more than RM3,000 and a jail term of not more than 2 years.
The married man has two children, according to the spokesperson of JAINJ.
