A 31-year-old Malaysian who works in Singapore has to sleep at an MRT Station as he doesn’t have place to stay for the time being. This is because he had rushed to Singapore before Malaysia banned citizens from leaving the country and foreigners from entering the country.

According to Today Online, Armel Sharil is one of the 20 workers who camped at Kranji MRT Station in Singapore on Thursday morning (19th March) to get some rest before the station opened. He waited until the metal gates were shut at 1am before he lay down on a cardboard on the floor to rest his eyes.

“I’ll wake up at about 5am, around the time the station opens,” he said.

The father of two said that his employer is still finding accommodation for him, but in the meantime, Armel is without a home.

All Armel had with him was his wallet, a phone with no internet access, a portable charger, a small tub of hair wax and mouthwash that he just bought. This is because he did not have enough time to pack his belongings before Malaysia’s travel lockdown starting 18th March.

Despite all this, Armel insists that he needs to stay in Singapore to work so that he can provide for his family.

“I’m going to continue working here even if the lockdown is extended because I need to feed my family back home,” he said.

“I’m so tired but I can’t sleep because I really miss them.”

While many of us are being quarantined in the comforts of our own home, there are many fellow Malaysians stranded in another country with no place to stay just so they are able to work and provide for their family.
