The Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) in a recent statement revealed that it has issued a total of 323 enforcement notices against business premises to replace their signboards from 2022 and 2024.

This is because the business premises failed to prioritise Bahasa Melayu on the advertisement boards, as prescribed by the Advertisement (Manjung Municipal Council) By-Laws 2013.

323 notices were issued to business premises in Manjung, Perak, for failure to prioritise Bahasa Melayu on signboards

MPM issued the statement in response to a report by a local online news portal regarding non-compliance with the by-law by several business premises allegedly within MPM’s jurisdiction.

The local government stressed that it has continuously taken enforcement actions as per the by-law should any non-compliance occur.

It added that according to the by-law, all words and letters in the national language must be given priority with clearer colours and placements on advertisement boards over words, letters or writing in other languages.

MPM stressed,

“We are consistent in taking stern action against signboards involving the national language and are ready to cooperate with any parties to overcome this issue in line with the provided legal jurisdiction to uphold the national language.”

28 compounds were issued against food premises for various offences

Meanwhile, in another update, MPM said that it has taken action against food premises within its jurisdiction during a recent operation.

Specifically, MPM conducted checks on 17 food premises and issued 28 compounds of RM250 each for various offences.

Among the offences are the placing of tables and chairs without approval and failure to renew the business license.

Besides that, an enforcement notice to close a premise within 24 hours was issued against a food premise that was found to be operating in unsatisfactory hygiene conditions.
