A total of 339 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers with disciplinary problems were involved in exchange processes throughout the country from 2018 until last January.

Based on a report by Harian Metro, the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) shared that, out of the 339 officers, 294 were transferred around the Peninsula Malaysia, 25 officers were transferred to Sabah and 20 officers were transferred to Sarawak.

“The change was made, because it was found that the police officers involved had disciplinary and integrity problems, and committed criminal offenses,” they explained.

This comes after Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi questioned about the number of police officers from Peninsular Malaysia who were transferred to Sarawak due to disciplinary problems.

KDN further elaborated that the issues and offenses committed by the transferred officers included having intimate relationships with married police officers that disturbs the harmony of their households, being arrested for the offense of having sex with married police officers and engaging in immoral activities.

Additionally, the consideration in making the decision (of transfers) took into account the existing exchange policies and regulations, namely Service Circular No. 3 of 2004 (Public Officer Exchange Guide) which explains that the exchange is not used as a punishment, unless it can help smooth the process of disciplinary action against the officer concerned.
