As tensions rise high with the Coronavirus outbreak, so does the desperation, when this man in need of face masks was conned RM266,153!

It’s like, can things actually get worse?

A report by Star Online stated that a businessman in Sibu was conned when he placed an order for 20,000 boxes of face masks. He was said to have received a call from a Singaporean friend who required these masks as the island was all out of stock.

The victim, being the great friend that he is (I’m assuming based on this story), wrote on his Facebook wall, asking where he would be able to place orders for face masks. Shortly thereafter, someone named Heston Seah responded, claiming to have them and that they cost S$14 (RM42) per box in Singapore.

He accepted the offer, purchased in bulk, banked in the money and told his friend that the shipment would arrive at his home address in Singapore. Unfortunately no parcel came and Heston ceased to exist.

The case is currently being investigated for cheating but we can only hope that the scammer is caught before he/she scams anyone else.
