A 37-year-old father who was addicted to smoking for 23 years figured out a way to quit and save money at the same time.

According to China Press, the man from Taiwan started smoking at the age of 14 and would have to smoke about one to two packs of cigarettes a day.

However, when he turned 37-years-old, he realised that his smoking habits could affect the health of his four-month-old son due to thirdhand smoke.

So, in order to completely quit smoking, he had the idea of giving himself a fine of two 50 yuan (RM13.60) coins every time he thought about smoking and saved the money.

After four years of practising this habit, the man managed to accumulate a total of 176,350 yuan (RM24,000)!

He also excitedly said that four years of not smoking saved him 13,400 yuan (RM1,824) on smoking money, which brings his total savings up to 310,000 yuan (RM42,100).
