One can only imagine the feelings of the job scam victims who are trapped overseas – the longing to return home and reunite with their families.

Over the past few months, multiple efforts have been done to rescue as many victims as possible. Despite the reported deaths, the rescue efforts continue, nevertheless. As for the job scam victims, the situation is too tough and extreme that decisions have to be made among the victim themselves on who gets to escape, and in the hope, those who made it back will spread the news and “trigger” more rescuing work.

As a result, four out of eight victims, who are all Malaysians were “selected” to escape, and they did so through a tunnel that was dug by the people in Laos.

It is unclear how the locals found out about them, but at the end of the tunnel, there was a car waiting for the victims who were selected to return to the country.

One of the victims who made it back to the country told the media in KLIA that it was either to fight back to Malaysia or to die in Laos. Should his attempt to escape fail, he was prepared to fight.

“It’s either I hug my wife and kid in Malaysia, or I die fighting in Laos.”

The victims knew that if they did not make it out alive, they would be sold to Myanmar like livestock.

One of the victims also told the media about a gruesome incident that he had to witness with his own eyes.

“A victim from China was beaten in front of us. His legs and hands were broken, and his head was injured. He told us that would be our fate if we didn’t escape.”

The family members of the victims expressed their gratitude to the Malaysian International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO), the government, as well as the people from Laos who did their part in helping.

Fortunately, some of the victims made it home, but the rescue work is far from over. We hope that the rescue efforts will not stop until all victims are safe and sound where they belong.
