More than 400 residents of Medan 88 Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi who are currently under the Targeted Enhanced Control Movement Order (TEMCO) have gone missing on the first day of implementation.

According to Sepang District Disaster Management Committee chairman, Mohamad Zain A. Hamid, the situation happened due to residents who are working different shifts, reported Utusan.

To explain what happened, he gave the example of implementing TEMCO at Kajang, where the lockdown was executed at 1am. Some residents returned from work earlier and some later.

“Residents who return early will be screened, but there are residents who just go out right in front of our eyes,” he said at a press conference where Sepang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran was also present.

Mohamad Zain said the same thing happened when TEMCO was implemented in Medan 88.

“When the residents found out (about TEMCO) early, the same thing happened again. As a result, even though we are targeting around 700 to 800 residents, 400 people cannot be traced,” he said.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in his press conference yesterday (12 November) that police are now tracking down the 400 residents who did not return home after a discussion with the National Security Council (MKN). He said any resident who leaves the area will be detained.

“We also issued arrest order against them and this time it will be easier as there are employers aiding them by using buses to take their workers out (of the Medan 88 EMCO area),” he said, according to Astro Awani.

He added that action would not only be taken against the foreign workers but also against the errant employers.

“This is because they can endanger the lives of others and make it difficult for the authorities to track them.”

Meanwhile, Mohamad Zain he urged all the residents involved to contact the Sepang District Health Officer to undergo a Covid-19 screening test.

Mohamad Zain added that he is expecting cooperation from residents who refuse to return for the safety of the community.

“TEMCO is implemented so that every resident can be screened, not just to control security alone,” he said.

“So do not worry and fear because what is done is for screening purposes only.”
