These are tough times for our country, especially for the rakyat that have lost their livelihoods due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With 5-digit daily infections seemingly being the norm lately, we must never lose our hope for a better tomorrow. Kita mesti menang!
While this scathing pandemic has brought the worst health disaster in our nation’s history, it has also brought out the very best from the Malaysian people. For example, the recent #BenderaPutih campaign has shown how fellow Malaysians will band together and help the less fortunate regardless of race, religion or region.
Nothing exemplifies this Malaysian spirit more than the recent posting by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kepong, Lim Lip Eng on Twitter. Taking to Twitter, Lim shared how he was approached by a food delivery rider at his office in Kepong.
At first, Lim thought that the person was there to ask for assistance but it was actually the opposite. The man, named Chris was actually there as a representative for a group of delivery riders who wanted to donate to the Kepong MP’s food bank for those in need.

Lim recalled,
“When he came I thought he wanted to ask for help, but I was wrong. He and his other rider friends (about 90 of them) in Kepong donated 15 boxes of canned goods to my food bank so that I could distribute them to the people in need.”
Furthermore, not only did the food delivery group purchase the 15 boxes of goods with their own money, but they also took the initiative to collaborate with a cafe to provide warm meals for the needy. Chris also continuously told Lim that if the Kepong Parliamentary office needs any kind of help, the rider group is always ready to provide assistance.
The Kepong MP then twitted how he was taken aback and in awe by the selflessness of Chris and his group of delivery riders. The act of kindness by them made him feel humbled that he might not be doing enough for the people out there. Lim asserted,
“Honestly, as a representative of the people, I am humbled. I know I might not be doing enough for the people out there. All this while, aid has been coming from the rakyat themselves.”
“My food bank initiative has also been filled through donations from the public. All from the rakyat, for the rakyat.”
Inspired by Chris and all the regular Malaysians who have selflessly helped their fellow countrymen in the time of need, the Kepong MP then promised that he will do his very best to serve the people.
