Cops are supposed to enforce the law, not break it!
Unfortunately, that was the case in a recent incident that involved five police officers in Malaysia as they were arrested for robbing a money changer. The damage? A whopping RM200,000.
Meanwhile, the mastermind behind all of this is believed to an assistant inspector (ASP) from the Bukit Aman HQ itself, who is still at large. It was reported by Malay Mail that the five cops, who have now been detained, received information from the ASP as well as three other officers from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to carry out the robbery and the victim is a manager at a money changer in Jalan Silang, Kuala Lumpur.

This incident happened at about 4pm on Sunday (19 May) and a total of nine men were said to have gone to that money changer outlet. That said, only five of them were nabbed. Meanwhile, a source revealed that the police are also looking for the three BNM officers to aid this probe.
When the cops arrived at the money changer, they reportedly introduced themselves as police officers from Bukit Aman’s commercial crime department and proceeded to accuse the victim of running that outlet without a legitimate license. Hence, they immediately handcuffed him, said the source who wishes to stay anonymous.

After that, the cops then “seized” a few mobile phones from the manager as well as four other staff at the money changer, and even took petty cash worth RM4,000 during the raid. The source detailed further,
“One of the policemen then told the victim that if he wants to ‘solve’ this, he just need to pay the group RM200,000.”
“The victim then told his driver to go to his home and bring RM200,000 cash, while the policemen waited at a bus stop in front Kotaraya Complex,” the source added.
After getting that large sum of money, the victim met up with the policemen at said bus stop to pass them the RM200,000. The victim has since lodged a police report about this incident and in the report, he mentioned that one cop was armed with a gun.

Following that, an investigation was conducted at the premise and thanks to the some of the CCTV recordings that were retrieved, the five cops were identified and arrested. Turns out, those five cops comprised of:
- An inspector from the PJ police HQ that’s attached with the narcotics department
- One corporal
- Two lance corporal from Seapark police station
- Another corporal from Jalan Bandar traffic police
“Investigations also showed that the mastermind ASP gave RM18,000 each to the five policemen and took the rest of the cash for himself,” the source added.
Meanwhile, it is uncertain whether the ASP and three BNM officers were part of the group of nine cops who raided the money changer outlet. Currently, the case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for robbery and Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a police officer.
