Since we have so many public holidays in Malaysia, there’s bound to be several long weekends in a year, just like the recent five-day long weekend. Since it’s situated within lush greenery adorned with wild animals and the sound of the ocean, the resort provides a secluded haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life; yet, nearby are local villages providing a glimpse of an authentic Malaysian lifestyle.
Having just opened, the luxurious resort can comfortably accommodate families, offering spacious beach front villas for four, including the handicapped as some interiors are specifically designed for those bound by wheelchairs. 1. Stunning interiors
The lovechild of the pioneer of Malaysian architecture, Hijjas Kasturi, created sharp lines softened by nature that would surely tantalise the senses. Simultaneously, he placed vibrant art everywhere, from large intricate woodwork at the entrance of the villa to smaller abstract paintings in the villa’s toilets.
Speaking of woodwork, the resort focuses on being eco-friendly by incorporating as much wood, bamboo, and rattan as possible while also building around nature, such as including trees into the design of the villa.
2. Breakfast of champions
The daily breakfast spread here consists of Asian delicacies, mainly local plus a hint of Western. Likewise for the dinner menu, both meal times are great opportunities for trying their nasi lemak, pucuk paku, rendang, and so much more.
Moreover, the dining area also echoes the wooden design elements, thus offering a relaxing ambiance for eating mindfully.
3. Turtle hatchery
Located literally beside The Kasturi, the Rimbun Dahan Turtle Hatchery provides an unforgettable experience for guests. After all, the sanctuary houses turtle eggs momentarily, ensuring a safe haven until the baby turtles hatch, since a market for their eggs unfortunately exists. 🙁
Guests of the resort are welcome to view the hatching process while also being able to hold those adorable tiny creatures before releasing them into the ocean – all for free!
4. Otter spotting
Besides the turtle sanctuary, guests can also observe otters that have made the local river their home. Within the vicinity of the resort, there’s a river that beautifully curves into the ocean, encapsulating the slogan of The Kasturi, “embraced by land and sea”.

Other wild animals spotted at or near the resort include a white crowned hornbill as well as the Jesus Christ lizard, which is known for walking on water.

5. Coming soon: kayaking and glowing fireflies
Since the recently-launched resort is still a work in progress, rest assured that more activities and amenities will be added soon. For example, kayaking around the river and watching glowing fireflies that naturally illuminate the night.
