Save yourself the queue and hassle! You can now renew your driver’s license and road tax online via the MyJPJ application, effective February 2024.

The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke said the new function will save the public time and costs, as well as reduce waiting times at road transport department (JPJ) counters, reported Berita Harian and Malaysia Gazette.

Malaysian road users have been able to download digital copies of their driver’s license and road tax since early 2023, when drivers no longer have to display the motor vehicle license, as part of the transport ministry’s efforts to go digital with JPJ services.

“Starting today (January 2), the public can share their digital road tax with family members, friends or other individuals authorised by the vehicle owner through the new “Kongsi LKM” function on the MyJPJ app.”

During a meeting at the JPJ HQ today, Loke said that to encourage digital usage, the government will provide an RM5 rebate to anyone renewing their driving license digitally.

The rebate will be available until December 31, 2024.

Loke also said that this initiative applies to those who choose e-LMM during renewal either through the JPJ counter, mySIKAP portal, MyJPJ application, or JPJ business partners including Pejabat Pos Malaysia and MyEG Services Berhad.

“This initiative is only for Malaysian citizens and does not apply to foreign nationals or any holders of passes, long-term permits, MyKAS Cards or MyPR Cards.”

What do you think of this initiative?

Update: The article previously erroneously mentioned a 5% rebate instead of RM5. We apologise for the error and have since rectified the error.
