After crying and pleading for a lighter sentence in court over a road rage incident, 50-year-old Muhammad Firdaus Abdullah, a Hilux driver who repeatedly hit a Perodua Axia, was brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate Court for another charge.

This time, Firdaus was charged for threatening the media crew who was reporting on his case with the intent to cause fear.

Johor Baru South police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, said Firdaus was arrested yesterday morning (June 26) after several media practitioners, including a TV3 cameraman, a photographer from Berita Harian, and a journalist from Oriental Daily, filed a police report stating that they had been threatened by the suspect.

He pleaded guilty

The man was accused of criminal intimidation by uttering threatening words towards a TV3 cameraman at the compound of the Johor Bahru Court Complex around 9 AM on Wednesday (June 25), and he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor R. Nevina urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence, stating that the threat was serious and the victim was merely carrying out his duties as a cameraman.

Firdaus sought a lower fine, citing that he has a wife and seven children to support. The court then sentenced him to a RM3,000 fine or 4 months in jail should he fail to pay the fine, reported Harian Metro.

Just a day before Firdaus was charged for threatening the media crew, he was fined RM13,000 on charges of crashing into a Perodua Axia and driving dangerously in a road rage incident.
