A man was believed to have been beaten to death by members of the public after he allegedly flashed his genitals in a public place in Melaka on Sunday (July 27) at about 7:26pm. The 51-year-old married man was apparently found dead in front of a kindergarten in Jasin.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the Melaka state police chief, Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, shared that his department received a report in regards to the incident at around 9pm and that initial investigations found that the incident started when the man allegedly exposed his genitals to the public while at the parking lot of a supermarket.
The man was then apparently chased by members of the public, causing him to flee towards Jasin Bestari.
“The victim was detained after a struggle, and initially, 2 men had beaten him before he managed to escape into the bushes, and he jumped through a river,” Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar explained.
Despite having managed to cross the river, the man was once again detained and beaten by several men, who heard the screams of members of the public asking for help to catch him.
The man, having suffered injuries from the beatings, was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel and his body was taken to the Jasin Hospital Forensics Unit for a post-mortem.
Investigations also found that the deceased had 2 criminal records of convictions for gross indecency in 2023 and 2024.
“What this means is that it was his habit to commit the act (of showing his genitals) again this year, which ended in his death.”
Those involved in beating the man were arrested
Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar added that, after conducting an investigation, the police had arrested 7 individuals, including a Pakistani citizen, aged between 15 to 50.
They have been remanded for 7 days while the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The public has since been asked to come forward with information that can assist in the investigation, via Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent Mohamad Ehsan Abu Bakar at 016-520 9501. The public has also been advised not to act hastily in such situations.
