6 Old Fashioned Things Our M’sian Society Taught Us That We Should 100% Unlearn For a Better Future

We acquire useful knowledge about the multi-cultural Malaysian society through social conditioning. But do you know that some societal notions can be problematic without us realizing it? Keep on reading to find out what Malaysians need to unlearn for a better future!

1. “Must get married, buy house, and have kids by 30.”

We definitely have uncles or aunties who approach us in every family gathering and ask about our life achievements. To them, in order to be successful, we must get married, own property, and have children by the age of 30.

If you’re single and living with your parents, don’t run away from your uncles and aunts! Let them know that it’s okay if you haven’t achieved certain goals in life or met that special someone yet. All that matters is your health and happiness!

2. “Being sad and depressed makes you weak.”

People who express sadness are often deemed as attention seekers or emotionally weak. Shoutout to our fellow cry babies! There are tons of stressful events in our lives that are inevitable, such as failing a test or losing a job, and expressing sadness does not make you weak!

Instead of bottling up your tears and forcing a smile, we highly encourage you to cry it all out! Taking the time to navigate through difficult emotions, such as stress, sadness, and anger, can improve our emotional intelligence and mental wellbeing. Kudos to you for pulling through all those challenging times!

3. “Working hard & being better than everyone else = success”

Without us realizing, we’ve become so kiasu that we want to be the best at whatever we do, be it at work or in our social circles. As a result, we tend to overlook the progress we’ve made over time, or worse, we might even hurt some people along the way.

It’s about time to tone down on our obsession with outcomes, and place more focus on progress instead! Besides, working hard alone is outdated. Now we work hard, work smart, and play hard, too! #YOLO Don’t forget to treat yourself once in a while to celebrate how far you’ve come!

4. “Men will always earn and achieve more than women.”

There are many defining factors of success, such as teamwork, strategy, and attitude, but gender is not one of them! Regardless of our gender, we would not pass that job interview if we show no passion for the job opportunity. And no matter what gender we are, we’re likely to win a football match with effective teamwork and strategies. Hence, instead of overgeneralising a group of people based on their gender, we should start seeing each other as unique individuals with endless potentials!

5. “Problems are in the way of success!”

Wait, problems and challenges are not your enemies! Instead, they are great learning opportunities and good chances to cultivate our resilience. Most often than not, it’s the uncommon problem that inspires creativity, and it’s the difficult problem that gets people to work together!

6. “The more money you earn, the more successful you are.”

The definition of success is not limited to the amount of money we earn or the number of branded items we own. In fact, success can be defined in so many different ways! Baking a cake for the first time, getting a driver’s license, becoming an abang delivery and getting a 5-star rating… These are all successes that are worth celebrating!

In fact, speaking of abang delivery, SUPER Coffee has also been playing their part to celebrate and appreciate our “Everyday Heroes” including our delivery drivers, cleaners, security guards, support staff, and more! These people are often taken for granted, yet they continue to help build a better community and provide us with essential services, even with minimal resources during MCO.

Therefore, determined to fuel our “Everyday Heroes”, SUPER rider Dr Say Shazril decided to send fellow frontliners some of SUPER’s notable coffees!

In doing so, SUPER hopes to motivate our “Everyday Heroes” to get through the day amid the pandemic, while reminding them that Malaysians are grateful for their sacrifices and contribution to the community. Wondering how Dr Say Shazril performed his duty? Check out the video below!

Besides appreciating these unsung heroes, SUPER Coffee invites fellow Malaysians to #SapotBersamaSUPER by expressing our gratitude to the frontliners and standing together to fight the pandemic. The brand recognizes that each and every Malaysian plays an important role in adapting to the new normal and combating the pandemic, which makes everyone a hero in their own ways. This is why SUPER Coffee decided to reward Malaysians with exciting prizes!
