We’ve all heard stereotypes about women drivers over the years, usually from a friend or a relative (some of us are actually guilty of believing them ourselves). Sure, for the most part, these stereotypes aren’t serious and most of us girls just shrug them off when we hear them, but there comes a time when you just have to say, you know, enough is ENOUGH.

Here are 7 annoying misconceptions we’re sick and tired of hearing:

1. We are worse drivers compared to men

Contrary to this age-old stereotype, a study based in the US found that men (71%) get into more accidents compared to women (29%). The study also found that men typically engage in more risky driving practices such as speeding, not wearing a safety belt, and driving while intoxicated. So, stop stereotyping okay!

One thing is for sure tho, when it comes to drivers in Malaysia, none of us are as terer as Penang drivers. I mean, come on lah… just look at this:

2. Slow drivers = Women drivers

*Sees a slow driver on the road*

“Confirm woman/aunty one lah!”

I swear if only I got a ringgit every time I heard this… Just to make things clear, we aren’t driving slow if all we’re doing is keeping to the speed limit. So, if you speed demons wanna speed and we’re in your way, that’s not our problem, mmkay?

3. Women can’t reverse park

[Test] 7 Annoying Misconceptions Every Woman Driver In Malaysia Cannot Tahan Hearing - World Of Buzz 1

Okay, first of all, how is this even possible considering most cars these days come equipped with parking sensors and cameras? However, I’ll admit that SOME of us do struggle with parallel parking but that does not mean we’re THAT bad, cut us some slack okay guys? ?

4. Our car is always messy or filled with shoes

Okay, this may apply to some of us, but let me just tell you that walking in heels all day can be a real pain! Not to mention, heels aren’t appropriate for every occasion kan? So, if we were to keep 6 pairs an extra pair of flats or sneakers in our car to swap our heels out for, what’s the big deal in that, amirite?

5. We are clueless when it comes to car repairs (i.e. changing a flat tyre)

To be fair, this is more of a millennial problem, not a gender one. Sadly, when it comes to car repairs, not many of us can claim we have the same prowess as the older generation. And when it comes to changing a tyre, it’s not that we don’t know how — we’re actually just too lazy to do it ourselves :p

6. You can get away with road bullying us because we’re ‘too nice’

[Test] 7 Annoying Misconceptions Every Woman Driver In Malaysia Cannot Tahan Hearing - World Of Buzz 3

Okay, this is nothing to be proud of but yessss we do it too! In hindsight, it’s funny how some people generally assume girls are ‘too nice’ to road bully considering that most of the road bullies I’ve encountered are also women. LOL XD

7. Women should drive small cars which are “suitable” for them

Excuse me? How and when did this stereotype come about exactly? While it’s true that an A or B-segment car would make a great get-around-town car, that’s not to say those are the ONLY types of cars out there for women. In fact, many women nowadays prefer driving compact SUVs!

If you don’t know what a compact SUV is, here are some reasons why you should consider one:

  • It’s smaller compared to full-size SUVs, making it a great drive-around-town car too!
  • It’s still spacious enough to fit up to 5 passengers comfortably and has a spacious boot.
  • Easy handling and a higher driving position compared to sedans.
  • It has a higher ground clearance compared to sedans so it’s easier to wade through floods.

Well, if you’re in the market for one yourself and not sure what to consider, why not check out the Honda HR-V RS.

If you’re thinking about getting a Honda HR-V RS, here are a few value-added features you should take note of:

  • The Variable Gear Ratio (VGR) steering system which allows greater driving stability, reduced risk of oversteering, confident lane changes at cruising or high speeds for an all-around sportier driving experience.
  • 8-Way Driver Power Seat allowing you to position yourself in your preferred driving position.
  • The Honda LaneWatch camera which enhances the side view and reduces blind spots while you’re switching lanes.
  • It’s visually attractive too, featuring LED headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), LED Fog lights, rear combi LED Guide lights, and 18” alloy wheels.
  • What’s more, it also comes equipped with an Advanced Display Audio which is compatible with Apple Car Play and Android.
  • It also features Ultra seating and a multi-utility cargo space which provides you with 3 customisable modes — tall, long, and, utility mode.

Also, who says ladies can’t be cool and sporty? Just check out the interior!
