Everything is affected by the pandemic and one of the hardest-hit sectors was the education sector.

During the first MCO, students had to stop going to school for a period of time. Thus, the schedule was skewed and the schooling calendar needed to be changed. Due to the second MCO, the number of cases had gone down to the low end of 1,000 at the beginning of April.

However, as time went by, it started going up again and stayed constant at the 2,000s for over a week.

Be it as it may, schools nationwide are still open even though the Health Minister himself said that 83 clusters were connected to the education sector. This calculation was taken between the period of 1 January to the present day but only 34 (total 2,251 cases) of those clusters have ended, reported Sinar Harian.

This leaves 39 clusters that are still active and the total number of cases remaining is 2,617 cases. In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, the Deputy Minister of Education said that schools that report even one positive case will be closed for two days. The affected students will need to attend classes online at that time.

The numbers are rising and it is definitely worrying. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that classes should all be held online or do you believe in physical classes? Let us know in the comments.
