This is outrageous!
A baby dolphin was only nine days old when it died at a water park in Bulgaria. According to Mirror, the dolphin died while it was performing for an audience and became overworked. However, its owners claim that this wasn’t true.
A witness of the incident at Varna Dolphinarium, Bulgaria, said that there was “disturbance” happening in front of the audience. At this point, the crowd was asked to leave the auditorium as the tragedy took place.
“There was a disturbance, the dolphins stopped playing and performing tricks,” a witness said.
The dolphins at the Dolphinarium are allegedly forced to perform four times a day! This animal cruelty must’ve led to the death of five dolphins and a seal over the past five years, according to Animal charity, Four Paws.
“This means categorically that conditions don’t meet even the minimal standards for keeping such animals,” said Representative Yavor Gechev.
“The animals are struggling there, they are not surviving.”
Following the incident, the venue refuses to admit that the baby dolphin’s death happened during its performance. Biologist Tsvetan Stanev said that the show has never used an animal that young before.
He added that dolphins aren’t usually separated from their mothers in their early days and are not used for performances until they are about six months old.
Meanwhile, a petition has been started calling for the Dolphinarium to be shut down.
“Dolphins are intelligent creatures and deserve to be at large!” it states.
RIP little dolphin 🙁
