In a string of horrific accidents to have occurred as a result of drunk driving, yet another person has fallen victim just early this morning (1st June 2020) after being struck by an intoxicated driver behind the wheel.
The victim, a FoodPanda delivery rider who had been working to make ends meet, was only 44-years-old.
The incident was said to have happened in along the Sultan Iskandar Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur. The deceased’s motorbike was struck from behind by a Nissan Grand Livina that was being driven by a 21-year-old drunk driver.
According to reports from Berita Harian, the deceased was on his way home to Bukit Antarabangsa after making deliveries of homecooked food his wife made to customers.
Police who attended the scene of the accident said that upon impact, the deceased was flung off his motorcycle and landed on the road shoulder, while his motorbike was dragged underneath the car of the drunk driver for 2 kilometres.
“The suspect brought his car to a stop under the Titiwangsa LRT station after being apprehended by members of the public,” said Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya.
Upon being brought to the nearest police station for a breathalyzer test, it was determined that the driver of the Nissan was indeed drunk when the incident had happened.
The case will be investigated under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
We hope that the deceased will be able to rest in peace, and we hope that the drunk driver will be held accountable for his actions.
