Since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) last year, online shopping has become a trend among the community. So much so that it has exceeded the capacity of courier companies.

According to a report from Sinar Harian, the development may be due to the MCO implementation, as many people have been using courier services to buy things online.

Recently, a tweet that went viral on social media talked about how some courier companies are having difficulties delivering parcels due to the lack of manpower.

One of the services affected by the situation was one of the well-known couriers in Malaysia. In fact, there’s even a post on Facebook showing that their operating centre in the Selangor area, which showcased their warehouse loaded with parcels.

The post got the attention of many netizens, including Malaysian celebrity Ahmad Fedtri Yahya. He tweeted that post on Twitter with the caption “aduan marhaen” followed by the hashtag.

Through that post, the complainant wrote,

“I advise you to stop sending your parcels to the courier in the areas around Selangor, especially the Sri Kembangan area. Lots of parcels arrive all the time. I’ve been informed that many staff quit due to internal issues within the Selangor management.

Apart from lost parcels, damaged parcels and others, we had a long line yesterday with some waiting for almost three hours to pick up the parcels (self-pickup). There is no staff at the counter to serve a large number of customers. Our last resort was going into the office and shouting to call people out to work in the warehouse,” said the complainant.

However, staff from the responsible courier company explained that more items needed to be delivered during the MCO and they lacked the manpower to deliver the parcels on time.

They also complained that the systems used are often interrupted, making it difficult for them to keep track of customer’s packages.

The complainant also claimed that his parcel had been lost without a trace for six days. The staff there asked all online shoppers to be patient due to staff shortages, especially now that they’re all exposed to the risk of Covid-19 infection.

Have you experienced parcel lost or massive delays during MCO?
