Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has announced that the Aerotrain service at the Kuala Lumpur International Airpot (KLIA) will finally resume operations at 10am on 1 July 2025.

Loke made the announcement during a press conference at KLIA today after inspecting the service, as reported by BERNAMA.

The Transport Minister added that the Aerotrain service is currently in its final testing phase to ensure all safety aspects are at the highest level before it is opened to users.

He asserted,

“I would like to announce that the Aerotrain project has been completed, and various trials have been conducted to ensure its safety.”

Loke said that the service is currently undergoing trials and several final tests in the coming days. These include the Emergency Response test, which he dubbed the most important test.

The KLIA Aerotrain service was halted in March 2023 after suffering a breakdown

The Aerotrain has been in operation since the international airport opened in 1998. However, the service suffered a breakdown in March 2023, which resulted in passengers resorting to walking on the airport train track in the rain.

In October 2023, Loke visited Wuhu, China, to monitor the progress of the Aerotrain’s new trains being manufactured there.

In June last year, the Transport Minister announced that the Aerotrain service would be ready by 31 January 2025, but it ended up being delayed with no confirmed completion date.

Today, Loke confirmed that the Aerotrain service will finally resume on 1 July, over 2 years after the service was halted.

Currently, KLIA offers a shuttle bus service to get passengers between terminals at the airport.
