Job hunting can be tough but the King has a reminder for all fresh graduates out there.

Don’t be picky when choosing jobs before all available positions get filled.

During the 100th Convocation Ceremony in UiTM on November 13, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim reminded the fresh graduates to grab whatever opportunities are available out there, especially when facing competition with foreign labour.

“Being picky does not only bring loss to the graduates themselves but also has a negative impact on the country’s developments.”

The King added that if the graduates are too selective about jobs, they will remain “honourably unemployed” and the available opportunities will be taken by foreign workers.

In the meantime, Sultan Ibrahim had another reminder for all the youth: don’t rely too much on the government.

“Don’t rely solely on the government’s help. It will cause the generation to be weak and passive. As the new generation who will lead the country in the future, you should say no to this attitude.”

Sultan Ibrahim highlighted that the culture and attitude of dependency can destroy self-confidence and the spirit to improve oneself, and ultimately, it will undermine the nation’s efforts to continue progressing.

“Every individual, including the younger generation, civil servants, and politicians, must first have the courage to make changes within themselves in order to ensure greater progress for the future of the nation and its people,” His Majesty explained.

He also expressed appreciation to UiTM for its efforts in producing competent graduates and hoped that the university would continue to play its role as a centre of knowledge driving the nation’s advancement.

What do you think of Agong’s take on being selective in the job hunt?
