Potholes and other defects on the road are seemingly a never-ending problem in our country, so much so that some Malaysians are even taking the initiative to fix the issues themselves.

With that in mind, the government has introduced several initiatives to address the issue, one of which is the MyJalan KKR app launched back in August 2023.

Available for download on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store and HUAWEI App Gallery, the app is a one-stop centre for the public to lodge complaints regarding road issues, regardless of whether the road is maintained by the Public Works Ministry or not.

Among the road issues that you can lodge complaints on the app include damaged roads, potholes, broken traffic lights, damaged street lamps, public facilities, landslides, blockages and more.

However, despite the app already being available to the public for almost half a year now, support for MyJalan KKR has been rather lacklustre with not many Malaysians even knowing that it existed.

Hence, newly appointed Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad bin Maslan is taking the initiative to further promote the app through his official social media accounts.

Taking to his official X account, Ahmad Maslan shared a video on how to use the MyJalan KKR app and elaborated on its significance in the caption.

Furthermore, the Deputy Works Minister also made a vow in the post that the Works Ministry will try to fix potholes on Federal roads within 24 hours of a report being received and confirmed on the MyJalan KKR app.

Ahmad Maslan asserted,

“Please download the MyJalan KKR app to lodge a report regarding damaged roads. There are Federal roads, State roads, City roads, Village roads and Agricultural roads.”

“For Federal roads, we vow to fix potholes within 24 hours of a report being received and confirmed.”

Replies on the X post were disabled by Ahmad Maslan, though he did post the same thing on his official Facebook page, hence we can see the public’s response.

In the comments section, many commenters point out several roads in the country that have been in terrible conditions for years. One Malaysian bemoaned the endless bureaucracy that resulted in potholes not being able to be fixed immediately.

Meanwhile, another commenter expressed disappointment at how there seemingly is no one in the big government departments that are monitoring road conditions so that they can be fixed immediately.

Besides that, one Malaysian stressed that damaged roads not fixed by the government will only cause trouble for the people and bemoaned the ministers not walking the talk.
