Johor Health and Environment Committee Chairman, Ling Tian Soon, recently pointed out that the public can take photos and record videos of people smoking in restricted areas.

He said that any photos or videos of people smoking in food premises or other no-smoking zones can be sent to the district health office for further action.

“Don’t be afraid to help uphold M’sian laws”

Tian Soon further noted that further strict actions will be taken on the matter as it concerns public health, as reported by Sinar Harian.

He also assures the public not to worry or be afraid to help ensure the laws in the country are upheld.

“If members of the public spot someone smoking in restricted areas, including restaurants or eateries, they can take photos and record videos before reporting it to the District Health Office.”

How to make a report

If you’re looking to make a report, here’s a simple step-by-step guide on how you can do it:

  1. Get the name and address of the eatery or restaurant you’re at.
  2. Snap a discreet photo of the person smoking on the premises.
    • Note: You can also report places that don’t have a ‘No Smoking’ sign displayed.
  3. Make sure to note the time and date of the photo.
  4. Report your information to the Ministry of Health (KKM) via WhatsApp at 010-8608949 or the operations room at 03-88924552  (office hours only).

Don’t worry, the complainant’s information will stay confidential, as reported by Harian Metro.

“Even government staff must follow the rules”

Tian Soon said that once a complaint comes in, the District Health Office will look into it, which includes conducting inspections at the premises.

“Rules apply to everyone, even government staff, so nobody gets a free pass when it comes to smoking in food outlets or no-smoking zones,” he added.

He shared this after launching five new facilities to mark the 6th anniversary of KPJ Bandar Dato’ Onn Specialist Hospital on Saturday.
