A video by a Malaysian motorcyclist is currently going viral online, as it shows how he received a laceration on his neck from a kite string while he was riding on the MRR2 highway, right beside the Kepong Metropolitan Lake Park.

Kepong MP, Lim Lip Eng, shared the video on his Facebook page while expressing his concerns over this matter.

He wrote, “I am referring to the video that went viral this morning (July 21), regarding a serious incident on the MRR2 highway near the Kepong Metropolitan Lake Park. A motorcyclist was seen getting his neck caught in a kite string, believed to be from a play area near the highway.”

“This is not a small issue. It involves the safety of road users. Flying kites near a busy, high-speed highway like the MRR2 is reckless and dangerous. It cannot be allowed to continue.”

In the video, the motorcyclist showed the cut he received to his neck from the kite string, which was thankfully not too deep, as his neck was covered by his clothing. His backpack and shirt, on the other hand, were not so lucky as they too were torn and damaged by the kite string.

“It’s a good thing I was wearing this cloth. If not for this cloth, I would’ve been finished. I would’ve been decapitated,” the motorcyclist explained in the video.

He also showcased how closely kites were being flown to the highway. Meanwhile, another kite could be seen caught on a lamp post in the middle of the highway.

The MP has called for DBKL to take action

Considering the risk factor involved, Lim Lip Eng has since urged the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to step in and move the area for kite flying activities further away from the highway.

“I have proposed to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to immediately move kite flying areas away from all risky areas, especially along highways and main roads. It is time this issue is dealt with seriously and systematically. The safety of road users cannot be compromised,” he added.
