Ampang Jaya Updates SOPs For MCO 3.0, Gyms & Pasar Malam Allowed To Operate

The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has updated the list of standard operating procedures (SOP) for several economic sectors during the Movement Control Order (MCO), including gyms, night markets and hair salons.

Last week, the MCO was implemented in several districts in Selangor, including Hulu Langat and Gombak, which Ampang Jaya is a part of.

In a Facebook post, MPAJ lists the updated set of SOPs which are as follows:

  • Restaurants, food stalls, food trucks, roadside vendors or any shop that sells food and beverages are allowed to operate from 6am to 12am. Only food delivery and takeaway allowed. Dine-in (including Ramadhan buffet at hotels restaurants) are NOT allowed.
  • Supermarkets, mini markets, grocery stores and convenience stories allowed to operate from 6am to 12am.
  • Shopping centres and hypermarkets are allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm. Any business activity in the supermarket is allowed to open based on the operating hours determined by the shopping centre management. However, entertainment activities in the shopping centre are NOT allowed.
  • Petrol stations allowed to operate from 6am to 12pm.
  • Clinics and hospitals allowed to operate 24/7.
  • Vets and shops selling pet food allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm.
  • Pharmacies and stores selling medicine allowed to operate from 6am to 12am.
  • Chinese drug stores/supermarkets selling liquor allowed operate from 8am to 9pm.
  • Laundromats allowed to operate from 6am to 12am.
  • Optical stores allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm.
  • Car wash centres allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm.
  • Barbers and hair salons allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm. Only haircut services are allowed.
  • Daily necessity stores allowed to operate from 8am to 10pm, with the approval of the relevant ministry/agency.
  • Morning markets and daily markets (limited to the purchase of daily essentials), public markets, farmer’s markets, weekday markets allowed to operate from 6am to 2pm.
  • Aidilfitri bazaars, night markets and car boot sales allowed to operate until 10pm. Bazaar managers, traders and visitors must comply with SOPs.
  • Care centres (daycare centres, kindergartens, old folks’ home and the like) allowed to operate as usual with the approval of the relevant ministry/agency.
  • Sports and recreation centres (private sports centre, badminton, ping pong and other non-contact sports) allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm. Physical distancing of at least 1.5 metres to be complied with at all times.
  • Health care centres (gyms, yoga centres, swimming centres, zumba, taichi and the like) allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm. 
  • Industry activities allowed to operate as usual with approval from the relevant ministry/agency. Public involvement is limited to 30% of the capacity or not more than 30 people (whichever is lesser) at any time and must be monitored to make sure SOPs are followed throughout operation hours.
  • Other business activities allowed to operate as usual with approval from the relevant ministry/agency.

Meanwhile, here’s the list of activities/businesses that are NOT allowed to operate in Ampang Jaya:

  • Spa and reflexology centres
  • Entertainment centres
  • Contact sports
  • Education institutions
  • Ramadhan bazaars
  • Social and cultural activities
  • Any activity that makes it hard to practise physical distancing.
